Lourdes
Some 6 million visitors from all around the world have gathered each year in Lourdes since the vision of the Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. Here, spirituality is part of the history and is embodied in the present day in the beauty of the site, the traces of the past and the atmosphere of contemplation in the sanctuaries.
With its 208 hotels, Lourdes is the second largest town in terms of number of hotels in France.
A cosmopolitan town par excellence, it geographical situation at the foot of the mountains also makes it an ideal starting point for excursions into the Pyrenees.
The eleventh century castle, listed as an Historic Monument, the Pyrenees museum and the Pic du Jer remind us of its key position at the gateway to the valleys of the Hautes-Pyrénées.
